Estimator Intern

Job Summary

Internship positions at Metropolitan Construction LLC will have the opportunity to work alongside Project Managers and Estimators with the goal of understanding the process and involvement needed to compete in the construction industry. Interns will have the opportunity to learn how to read, interpret, and apply blueprints to a job site while also estimating the cost and resources required to complete a project. Other opportunities included in the internship are learning and applying survey knowledge to a job site, getting introduced to the programs and spreadsheets, and real world-hands on experience in the field. Duties and Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide administrative and technical assistance to the Project Management Team
  • Negotiate and/or support the process of negotiating contracts, subcontracts and other purchase orders
  • Proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and industry networking functions
  • Assist in preparations of bid packages and procurement
  • Process all relevant project correspondence
  • Utilize appropriate software programs to calculate, record and track estimates
  • Maintain relationships with clients throughout project process, including but not limited to attending meetings, answering questions, and resolving issues
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products;
  • Broad understanding of industry;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Basic math/accounting skills;
  • Functions effectively as part of a team;
  • Dependability;
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;
  • Ability to understand and follow directions;
  • Good time management skills and organizational skills;
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications (Preferred but not required)
